![]() ![]() This is where the roguelike nature of the game comes distinctly into play, as you can pick from a random assortment of truly useful tools. Each time you beat a segment, you are rewarded with a random upgrade. ![]() Each world gradually introduces new dangers and mechanics, such as the spike traps in the Catacombs or the need to constantly find air bubbles while falling through underwater segments. ![]() The world of Downwell is split between 4 distinct worlds which are themselves separated into 3 segments. What does matter is playing the game feels utterly unique and awesome. You don’t know why, as there isn’t much in the way of plot, but frankly it doesn’t matter. Yes, much like Bayonetta, the unnamed protagonist is armed with deadly weapons on his feet. Luckily, you can do more than avoid said creatures, and this is all thanks to the game’s most unique feature – the gunboots. There’s a distinct rhythm to it, once you get the hang of things. You have to fall farther and farther down the well, avoiding debris and malevolent creatures as you do so. The basic mechanics of the game are beautifully simple. I say “essentially” because I have never played a roguelike that felt more like a platformer before. The first thing you should be aware of is that this game is essentially a roguelike. Little did I know how far down the rabbit hole I would fall as I started playing… I was completely ignorant of the hype, and honestly bought it for two simple reasons – it was ridiculously inexpensive at $2.99, and I appreciated the pixelated graphics. Keep at it! You'll get the beast eventually.I didn’t really know what I was getting myself into when I bought Downwell on Steam. If you get good with everything it doesn't matter. I agree with ssharky about the holy trinity of gem upgrades and will forever call them that going forward :)ĭon't waste time on reverse engineering. Youth and Safety jetpack are always my first choice if they come up early. Safety Jetpack is excellent for early levels. In Limbo you should shoot for 25x combos, just like starchy says. I think you should go for 15x combos the whole way down until Limbo. My advice is to take EVERY gun module you come across. I agree, spinning arm style is probably your best bet if you're just wanting to beat the boss for the first time there will be a time when you're almost dead and it shows up at the perfect moment. avoid the temptation to grab it for the +1 extra health. gem sick > time out > candle > rocket jump > rest in pieces > safety jetpackĪpple is a weird special case. I used to get reverse engineering so i could really double down on health in the second half of the game, and get rid of machine gun upgrades, but i never bother anymoreĮverything else sucks. Gunpowder blocks is fun in caverns but only get it if you're playing for speed or combos, rather than health you really really really want all three by the time you get to limboĭrone and hot casings are nice in limbo but I don't bother with them early Gem powered, poppin gems, and gem attractor are the holy trinity. I usually don't bother with it past the catacombs Youth is good but obviously has diminishing returns over time. And having reliably regular stores lets you be picky and only buy +2 health or +1 max health items which are the best value Member's card which is the second best way to get more health. there is no better way to get health, and health is everything Since you're not trying to get combos anyway, omnomnom is the best powerup by a huge margin. If you see a machine gun in limbo you can skip it You get enough guns to be a little picky. Especially don't try to get combos in the catacombs. You're probably losing more health trying to do combos than you're buying with the money you earn doing combos. Combos are harder to get with spinning arms and more dangerous. Stop trying to get combos (until you get to limbo). even with perfect play floaty doesn't get you enough money to buy an extra health or two ammo every level, so this is better value With spinning arms you are getting about 1 extra weapon grab per level. Here's how I played when I was about as good as you are:

RV's all you can see is a peekaboo around dipstick/filter door and cowl exit area. For me the biggest reason to remove cowl is inspecting under the cowl, regardless of oil change. Many GA planes allow you to drain oil and replace filter with cowl on. Most of the work is getting the cowl off and reinstalling it. Any place, justification, advantage of using an extractor on your Lyc vs drain plug. Two CONS is with cowl on you can't change oil filter and can't do under cowl inspection. ![]() One PRO is you can change the oil alone without removing the cowl. What are the PROS and CONS of using an oil extractor? I think extracting, will provide a decent sample? Would be be accurate? Well I think most oil analysis folks ask you to not take the first bit of oil right. I can always do oil sample on oil I extract. Everytime I cut a filter open it's pretty. OK what if I go to 50 hrs for full meal deal oil and filter change, but at 25 hrs just swap oil out with extractor, with cowl on. Personally I change at 25 hrs to 35 hours. With most not flying that often 25 hours per 3/mo is not uncommon. TCM and Lyc recommend 50 hrs or every 3 to 4 months between oil changes. OK I get it, this is not something you want to do all the time. I think in some cases (German of course) there is really little choice, you have to extract from the top. Many car manufactures and dealers only recommend use of oil extractors now. Not a big difference, but the drain plug does squeak out a few more ounces. I use the extractor to get all the oil out of the filter housing. However the oil filter housing has a pocket at bottom that does not drain. On my VW Diesel it is a few ounces (2-3 oz max). * What is the difference in oil removed drain plug vs extractor. I can take it to Auto-Parts-R-US and dump oil with no spill. ALSO the oil is in a sealed container of extractor not an open pan. I am done in 15 minutes and never had to get on ground or get jacks out. From the fill port over valves, I pour in the exact amount of oil needed. I remove the extractor hose, put in dipstick. By the time I change the filter the oil pan is drained, as the extractor is slurping up the last bit. In the mean time, I change the oil filter which is upfront on top cartridge type (not spin on). It takes about 4-5 minutes to pull all oil out. (*Read below on difference in amount drained between methods). Since plug is in front corner of oil pan, I park in a way oil pools in front corner. I pull dipstick and put extractor hose in, goes to very bottom of pan, can hear and feel it. That takes about hour and more tools and monkey motions.ĬAR Continued - The easy way with extractor, forget jacks and no need to remove belly aero pan and associated hex drive tool. I can change my oil on my VW in under 15 mins, not get dirty or have to lay on the ground or get hot oil on my had.ĬAR - The old fashion way, get car jacks out and jack car, take out a dozen + bolts to remove aero belly pan, wrestle pan out from under car, get oil catch pan in position, pull the drain plug letting it blurb into open catch pan, wait, carefully slide catch pan out trying not to slosh, put drain plug back and torque (use new washer), wrestle aero pan back under car and try to align it and install dozen bolts, crawl out from under car, lower car, put jacks away. But I am curious if anyone has considered it or done an oil change on their LYC with an oil extractor. ![]() The React Native CLI will automatically open a terminal and start the server. I tried exporting from Goxel to ply and importing that into Blender, and then I was able to get Blender to show me the colors as vertex colors, and then I messed around with it for a couple more hours and finally converted those vertex colors to a texture I could use with a b3d model, which I successfully imported into Minetest!įor some reason I had thought that obj was what I should use for non-animated models, but I re-read. ![]() ![]() Thank you so much for the help! I somehow didn't fully understand that textures, vertex colors, and materials were all different things that may or may not be exported depending on the format. The sorts of things I mentioned in Blender shouldn't really be expected of the artist - once you have a coloured model, why would you want to have to go and texture and UV map it arduously? :( Sorry I don't have an easy solution, but I hope that at least helps you start your search for a good export program. As I said though, UV mapping can be quite hard if you can't interpret the Goxel PNG export. When UV mapping in Blender, make sure to use the UV -> Round to pixels -> Corner option so it snaps to hard pixel edges. First, make sure to auto-resize the model to crop out any blank space around the model, since that will fill the PNG export with useless pixels of transparency. However you will first need to mark the seams and UV unwrap - there are tutorials about UV mapping and unwrapping widely available.Īnother method using Blender is to take the PNG slices export from Goxel and assemble the UV map by manually moving the vertices around. You could use the Goxel window as a reference and use Blender's texture paint mode to paint the pixels on. The alternative, if you can't find a program with a good export function, is to set up the UV map and texture manually in Blender. In my short search, I noticed some people mention MagicaVoxel - perhaps that has better export options? Goxel does not seem to do that, but such a program would just be a quick conversion process. I am no expert, but there may be a program out there that takes a voxel model and creates a standard mesh with a proper UV map that matches the voxel colours. this GitHub issue and this Reddit thread. This kind of problem is well-known - e.g. Given the limitations of Goxel, which is mostly on the texturing side, I can only suggest that if you want to author a model for Minetest in Goxel, you will need to add a secondary program to your workflow to complete the UV mapping step. Thus, it may be easier to make a voxel model but texture it with another program like Blender's texture paint mode. However the front, left, back and right sides will have all their pixels split across possibly quite many vertical layers, and you may struggle to find them. In a PNG export from Goxel, texturing the top and bottom is relatively easy, as those will sit in contiguous space, being one vertical layer each. This way you can (relatively) easily understand where each pixel sits on the cube. In the standard layout of a UV map, you have the texture in the shape of the net of a cube. But it means that laying out the UV map will be tricky. This is fine, as you will understand it is the inherent limitation of voxel models. However, this is one pixel per voxel, and not the same as most mesh textures which support 1 or more pixels per face of a cube. 'standard'? Goxel has a "PNG layers" export option which will create a PNG that encodes each vertical layer of your model.
